how it started

On a trip to India in the summer of 2006, founder Christy Munding was inspired to make a social impact. She was visiting India through an MBA study program and during her stay visited Ujjivan, a microfinance institution located in Bangalore. Christy left that meeting with CEO Samit Ghosh inspired by the work that Ujjivan was doing in Bangalore, and by the stories of how microfinance was helping to change the lives of the individuals it touched.

It was in the markets of Bombay where the idea for Global Touch was born. Christy (an admitted shopaholic) found amazing jewelry and unique items in the markets that she knew her family and friends would love. It was there and then that she found her way to make an impact by meshing her desire to provide others with unique items from around the world, with her desire to contribute to the efforts of microfinance.
